Sights
On Prahova Valley there are numerous sights:
- The Peles Castle of Sinaia, whose builders were King Carol and Queen Elisabeta. The construction of the castle lasted for 10 years, between 1873 and 1883. The castle was ment to be the residence for the royal family. After King Carol died, he left the castle by testament to the romanian state, to become a museum.
- The Pelisor Castle whose builders were King Carol and Queen Elisabeta also, was built between 1899 and 1902. This castle was the house of the Ferdinand kings, Carol the IInd and Mihai untill 1947, when it was nationalized. Since 1990 it became a museum.
- The Martha Bibescu Castle whose builders were prince George Valentin Popescu and his wife, Martha Bibescu. Built in 1934, in the city of Comarnic, in Posada neighbourhood, as resting place for the family. In 1948 it was nationalized and had many purposes. Today, it serves as Restoration Centre for Art, and since 1992, inside the new wing there is the Cinegetic Museum, the only museum of this kind in the country.
- The Sinaia Monastery built by Mihai Cantacuzino and his wife in 1695. Inside the museum of this monastery there are some old icons and old scrolls from the XVII century.
- The National Heroes Cross situated in Caraiman Valley, at 2291 metters, was built in 1927, in memory of the heroes from The First World War. The Cross was raised by the decision of Queen Mary and King Ferdinand. The metallic side of the monument has 28 metters in height, and it's the world largest construction of this kind, at this altitude.
- The Cezar Petrescu Memmorial Museum This house, built in 1931, in the brâncovenesc style, lies in Buşteni.
